We have always valued authentic content, honesty, and our writers’ knowledge. Although our team is skilled at writing in their style, sometimes we use AI to improve quality, check iffy research, and improve readability.
Permitted Uses of AI
- Finding Applicable Stories – The use of AI can help us identify trending topics or articles that could interest readers, working toward making our content both up-to-date and interesting.
- Checking citations and sources – AI can be employed to find and verify sources for already published content, but our staff does this manually.
- Spelling and Grammar Checking – AI tools are trained to proofread drafts. This means both grammar and style can improve.
- Summarizing Content – AI can be used to organize research, reports, or long articles for ease of integration by writers.
- Idea Generation – AI can suggest potential angles or questions for a story, but eventually the writer makes the final decision and layout.
- Formatting help – AI can help with titles, numbered lists, or other formatting to make it easier for a person to read.
- Image creation – As a small organization, we do use AI to create some generic images. AI-generated images should have a star icon on the bottom right of the image.
What AI Will Never Do
- Create content independently of humans. Every article is written, checked, and approved by our writers.
- Stand in place of our contributors’ expertise, judgment, and unique voice.
- Spread unchecked information. Accuracy, integrity, and reader trust are our highest priorities.
Transparency
We commit to the fair use of AI. Anything that involves AI assistance is merely supportive while our content remains human-written, original, in line with editorial norms, and most importantly, truthful.
